Food for Thought Friday

Food for Thought: King Arthur's swords.

King Arthur had two magical swords. Everyone knows the story of how he pulled a sword from the stone. Many people also know King Arthur's sword as Excalibur. The cool thing, they're not the same sword!

The sword in the stone was King Arthur's first sword, the sword in the stone. His being able to pull the sword out of the stone secured his title as King of England.

Arthur received this sword at a younger age (as depicted by the Disney image). It wasn't until later that he was given Excalibur.
The Lady of the Lake, who was water nymph or a water goddess, gave King Arthur this magical sword Excalibur, which he used in his adventures. Upon his death, King Arthur requested the sword be returned to the lake.
(It is thought the lake is the Berth Pool)

Fun Comic recommendation:
Legend has it, King Arthur will return when England needs him most. Camelot 3000 (1982) by DC comics explored this idea, placing it in the year 3000 when martians are attacking earth. Happy readings! It is cheesy and wonderful.
